Duty of Care & Safeguarding

A duty of care means you must take all reasonable steps to prevent harm, abuse, or neglect. If you observe warning signs of physical, financial, or emotional mistreatment, you have a legal obligation to report it immediately to your supervisor. Failing to report abuse is treated as professional negligence.

Consent & Person-Centred Care

You must always secure explicit permission before performing any task on a patient, whether it is washing, dressing, or feeding. Person-centred care requires tailoring your work to the individual's choices, cultural background, and personal preferences. Privacy must be protected by shutting curtains during care and keeping patient information confidential.

Infection Prevention

Infection prevention relies on strict cleanliness protocols. You must wash your hands thoroughly using clean water and soap for a minimum of 20 seconds before and after touching any patient. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as disposable plastic aprons and gloves must be changed between every patient interaction to prevent cross-contamination.
